Historical Crime Drama Film ‘Boston Strangler’ Soon to Launch on Disney+ & Hulu: What It’s All About

Do you have something to chill to this Friday? Maybe a historical crime drama movie, Boston Strangler, on Hulu and Disney+ can fill the gap perfectly. The upcoming film is written and directed by Matt Ruskin, filming exclusively in Boston between December 2021 and March 2022.

In mid-2021, 20th Century Studios, LuckyChap Entertainment, and Scott Free Productions were revealed to be organizing to produce a Matt Ruskin project, Boston Strangler.

The film joins other crime drama projects on Hulu, such as Murdaugh Murders, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Casey Anthony: An American Murder Mystery, and The Handmaid’s Tale.

What’s the Premise of Boston Strangler

In the early 1960s, fifteen women were murdered in Boston, Massachusetts, by ill-famed America serial killers. The tragic crimes were credited to Albert DeSalvo, based on DNA connections with the final victim and his confession in court on a separate case.

Reporters Jean Cole and Loretta McLaughlin took the risk of diving deeper into the case, uncovering the 1960-sexism and corruption linked to the identity of the main suspect.

Hulu and Disney Plus will showcase the extent of personal risk that the reporting duo put itself through to bring to light the details of the Boston Stranglers.

Is There a Trailer for Boston Strangler?

Yes! Hulu, Disney+, and 20th Century Studios have released the official trailer for Boston Strangler via different channels.

In 1 minute and 53 seconds, the trailer starts with Loretta and Cole deeply investigating the strangulation of three women, seeking to cut down the numbers and stop the killings before they become a story. It all ends with visual illustrations of various victims’ final moments with the strangler before their death.

Who are Behind the Creation of Boston Strangler?

Besides Ruskin, Boston Strangler is produced by Ridley Scott, Josey McNamara, Tom Ackerley, Michael Pruss, and Kevin J. Walsh, alongside Paul L-Morgan on the music desk. Anne McCabe is the film editor, while Bet Kutchins works on the cinematography.

In a video with On The Red Carpet, Matt Ruskin reveals that researching the movie made him realize how little he knew about the Boston Strangler case despite growing up in Boston.

Who Plays Who in Boston Strangler?

Keira Knightley and Carrie Coon portray Loretta McLaughlin and Jean Cole, respectively, as the first reporters to work on the case.

Other characters include Robert J. Burke (Eddie Holland), Bill Champ (Commissioner McNamara), Chris Cooper (Jack MacLaine), and Alessandro Nivola (Detective Conley).

When Will Boston Strangler Premiere?

Boston Strangler launches on Friday, March 17th 2023 on Hulu in the US and Disney+ in the UK.
