Munich — The Edge of War (2022) Coming to Netflix: January 21st

Due to release on Netflix on January 21st, 2022, Munich – The Edge of War will be one of the first major Netflix original movies of the year. The film is a British war drama, with a screenplay by Ben Power based on the book of the same name by Robert Harris, and directed by Christian Schwochow. This WWII historical drama stars Jeremy Irons as Neville Chamberlain, George MacKay as Hugh Legat, Jannis Niewöhner as Paul von Hartmann, and Ulrich Matthes as Adolf Hitler. Starring alongside them is Sandra Hüller, Liv Lisa Fries, August Diehl, Jessica Brown Findlay, Anjli Mohindra, and Mark Lewis Jones.

Munich – The Edge of War follows a British diplomat traveling to Munich in advance of World War II.

Netflix says of the movie: “Based on the international bestseller by Robert Harris. It is Autumn 1938 and Europe stands on the brink of war. Adolf Hitler is preparing to invade Czechoslovakia and Neville Chamberlain’s government desperately seeks a peaceful solution. With the pressure building, Hugh Legat, British civil servant, and Paul von Hartmann, German diplomat, travel to Munich for the emergency Conference. As negotiations begin, the two old friends find themselves at the center of a web of political subterfuge and very real danger.”

We already know our history, which means that Munich – The Edge of War can’t rely on twists, turns, imagination, or a great plot to keep the story moving along. Instead, it has to rely on the characters, some of which are fictional, to keep the watcher entertained.
