New Horror Series on Netflix: Archive 81

A new horror series coming to Netflix, Archive 81 is loosely based on the podcast of the same name which ran from 2016 to 2019. It is currently taking a break, and fans are eagerly awaiting its 4th season.

Archive 81 is a horror podcast about an archivist who goes missing. His friend tries to get to the bottom of his disappearance by getting to the bottom of a whole load of found footage.

The podcast was created by Marc Sollinger and Daniel Powell, who will both be co-producers on the TV series.

The eight hour-long episodes in the first season of the Netflix horror series will be released on January 14th. The Netflix tagline reads:

“An archivist takes a job restoring damaged videotapes and gets pulled into the vortex of a mystery involving the missing director and a demonic cult.”

It will star Mamoudou Athie, known for Black Box and Uncorked, Altered Carbon’s Dina Shihabi, and Frontier’s Captain Chesterfield, Evan Jonigkeit.

It is executive-produced by Rebecca Sonnenshine, who has shows like The Vampire Diaries and The Boys under her belt, and James Wan, the influential horror filmmaker known for movies like Saw, Insidious, and The Conjuring and directed by Rebecca Thomas, known for Stranger Things and Electrick Children.

Showrunner Rebecca Sonnenshine said of the show: “With Archive 81, we’re hoping to give the supernatural horror genre a new twist — while keeping a dark, deeply emotional romance as its core. Alongside the talented Mamoudou Athie and Dina Shihabi, and visionary partners Atomic Monster and Rebecca Thomas, I’m excited to take Netflix viewers on a terrifying and visually thrilling adventure.”

Well, Rebecca, we’re excited to watch it.
