‘The Lost Daughter’ to Start Streaming on December 31st: Official Trailer

The Lost Daughter is a psychological drama written and directed by Maggie Gyllenhaal and based on the novel by Elena Ferrante.

Who Stars in The Lost Daughter?

The cast includes the amazing Olivia Colman, this woman just cannot give a bad performance, so right off the bat we are super excited to see what she has to offer. Starring alongside Colman are Irish actress Jessie Buckley, known for films such as Beast, and I’m Thinking of Ending Things, Dakota Johnson of 50 Shades fame, Ed Harris, Maggie Gyllenhall’s husband Peter Sarsgaard, Polish-American actress Dagmara Dominczyk, and Irish actor Paul Mescal.

What’s the Plot? 

The Netflix tagline reads:

‘A woman’s quiet seaside vacation takes an unsettling turn when her fixation on a young mother staying at a nearby villa awakens memories from her past.’

Olivia Colman plays middle-aged divorcée Leda, who takes a holiday in Italy after her two daughters leave home, There she meets a family who unsettles her and as a result, she is forced to confront her past.

The film received a glowing recommendation from Rotten Tomatoes, who gave it 95% on their Tomatometer and describe it as “A strikingly assured debut for writer-director Maggie Gyllenhaal, The Lost Daughter unites a brilliant cast in service of a daringly ambitious story.”

When Can We Watch it? 

The Lost Daughter is only playing in selected theatres at the moment but will be released on Netflix on December 31st.
