Watch ‘The Shannara Chronicles’ on Netflix Before it’s Gone

Sad news for anyone (me included) who has been hoping for news of a third season of The Shannara Chronicles, or for a third season to magically appear on their Netflix. Either would be great. Alas, it is not to be. The Shannara Chronicles was canceled last year due to low viewership and lack of budget and is now due to leave Netflix next year.

Filmed in New Zealand in the Auckland Film Studios and on location around the beautiful country, the series is an adaptation of The Sword of Shannara novels by Terry Brooks, a wonderful trilogy of fantasy novels set thousands of years in the future. It is a story involving humans, elves, dwarves, gnomes, and other fantasy creatures. Human civilization has long been destroyed and the Earth is now divided into ‘The Four Lands’.

It follows Amberle, an elven princess, Eretria, a human girl, and Wil, a mixed-race human/elf boy, as they undertake a quest to save the Ellcrys—an ancient tree that prevents demons, long since banished and locked away, from returning to this world. If the Ellcrys dies, the demons will all return, so Amberle, Eritria, and Wil must race to save it, and the world. They are guided on their quest by the last druid, Allanon.

Unfortunately, the series will be removed from Netflix soon, due to leave Netflix in the US on January 22nd, 2022. We don’t know yet if it will be removed from the streaming service in other regions, but we would advise you to watch it soon, if it has been on your list for a while!
