Another upcoming American miniseries, based on a true story, is going to hit our screens soon. Coming to Netflix in 2022 the drama Inventing Anna, “inspired by the true story of a total fake”, was created and produced by Shonda Rhimes, who also created Scandal, and Bridgerton. It is based on an article by Jessica Pressler, “How Anna Delvey Tricked New York’s Party People” which appeared in New York Magazine.
Anna Sorokin was born in 1991 in Russia, and relocated to Germany in 2007 with her family.
Between the years 2013 and 2017 in New York, she defrauded banks, hotels, and her New York social elite friends, scamming around $275,000 over the four years. She was sentenced to 4 to 12 years in prison in May 2019, and fined $24,000. She was also ordered to pay restitution of $199,000.
The miniseries will follow Vivian Kent, a journalist, played by Anna Chlumsky, the child actress who stars in My Girl with Macaulay Culkin. Throughout the series we will see her investigate Anna Sorokin, who had been calling herself Anna Delvey through the four years that she was conning New York’s socialites. Anna is played by Emmy award winner Julia Garner, known for playing Ruth Langmore in Netflix crime drama series Ozark.
Inventing Anna also stars Orange is the New Black’s Laverne Cox, actress and professor Anna Deavere Smith, actress and producer Alexis Floyd, Anders Holm, Terry Kinney, Scandal’s Katie Lowes, Iranian-born American actor Arian Moayed, and Jeff Perry.
