Word on the Street: Netflix Might Not Renew the Teenage Drama Series, ‘Outer Banks’

Rumor has it that Netflix has canceled the mystery teen drama show, Outer Banks for its sunken season 2 performance. Netflix Updates tweeted the news earlier today, with the show’s fans coming to its defense in the comment section. Many commenters dispute the rumor, claiming that Outer Banks performed well, and doesn’t deserve to be canceled.

Our Take

Since Netflix hasn’t officially announced the cancelation of the show, it’s hard to predict whether season 3 won’t be renewed. Netflix doesn’t rely on ad support, meaning that it can take a risk on the show if it shows great potential. The streaming company has to weigh production costs against viewership status to see if the series stands renewal or not.

Generally, Netflix TV shows that are lucky to be renewed are often selected within a month of the series or season launch. Outer Banks made its series premiere on Netflix on April 15 2020, and the 2nd season was renewed on July 2020 upon which it was launched on July 2021.

This show stands a strong chance of renewal for the third season because of its great viewership and solid ratings. It scored 7.6/10 on IMDb and 4.7 out of 5-star rating. Some of the viewers who gave the show 5-star reviews claim that Outer Banks is one of the best shows they’ve ever watched, filled with excitement, drama and mystery.

Season 3 Possibility

Considering that the season two finale was a bit of a shocker, our hopes are high that a third round of the series is on the cards. If it is, then we should expect to see the show return around summer next year at the earliest.
